At GITA-Africa, we recognize that tourism thrives where communities prosper and environments are protected. Our Conservation, Sustainability and Community Programmes are designed to encourage girls and young women to become active participants in environmental stewardship, responsible tourism, and community transformation.
Through strategic partnerships and volunteerism, we create opportunities for our members to contribute towards conservation efforts, community sensitization, and social impact initiatives. These programmes not only reinforce the interconnectedness between tourism and sustainability but also cultivate a sense of responsibility, leadership, and service among young people.
We believe that empowering girls through tourism also means empowering them to care for the destinations, communities, and people that make tourism possible. Through these programmes,
GITA-Africa remains committed to raising environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and community-oriented tourism leaders who understand that the future of tourism depends on the wellbeing of both people and the planet.
World Environment Day Tree Planting Initiative
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, GITA-Africa partnered with Good Forests Foundation Uganda in a large-scale tree planting exercise aimed at restoring ecosystems and promoting environmental sustainability.
Through this initiative, over 800 trees were planted across Hoima, Rukungiri, and Fort Portal, demonstrating the collective commitment of young people towards climate action and conservation.
The activity provided participants with practical exposure to environmental stewardship while emphasizing the important role healthy ecosystems play in sustaining tourism destinations.
GITA-Africa Launch
During the official launch of GITA-Africa, members partnered with Miss Tourism Uganda under the “Let the Pearl Shine” Campaign to undertake a community clean-up exercise. The activity aimed to promote responsible citizenship, environmental cleanliness, and collective ownership of Uganda’s tourism assets.
In addition, GITA-Africa collaborated with Good Forests Foundation Uganda to plant 50 trees at the Kabaka’s Palace, further demonstrating the organization’s commitment to sustainability and long-term conservation efforts.
International Museum Day Celebrations under the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities
GITA-Africa actively participated in the International Museum Day celebrations held in Jinja. Particularly, the CSR committee.
In partnership with Good Forests Foundation Uganda, approximately 1,000 trees were planted across various streets and public spaces within Jinja City as part of broader greening efforts.
Other activities included;
- Community clean-up activities
- Market sensitization campaigns focusing on environmental responsibility and the importance of maintaining clean tourism spaces;
These activities highlighted the role individuals and communities can play in preserving both natural and cultural resources for future generations.
Community Outreach with Youngsters Love Africa Foundation
GITA-Africa also partnered with Youngsters Love Africa Foundation in community outreach initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable learners. Through this collaboration, members contributed towards the donation of;
- Scholastic materials
- Sanitary pads.
The initiative sought to promote dignity, improve access to basic educational necessities, and demonstrate the role tourism organizations can play in contributing to broader social development goals. By extending support beyond the tourism space, GITA-Africa continues to foster compassion, solidarity, and a culture of giving among young women.
