GITA-Africa believes that empowering the next generation of tourism leaders begins early. Through our school and institutional programmes, we seek to introduce, nurture, and strengthen interest in tourism among girls and young women at different stages of their educational journeys. Our approach recognizes that tourism education and empowerment should not happen at a single point in time. Rather, it should evolve alongside the learner. Growing with something builds passion from within. We are looking to create awareness about sustainable acts, environment and wildlife conservation, patriotism among others.
By engaging students from primary school through to higher institutions of learning, GITA-Africa seeks to cultivate informed, confident, and passionate young women who appreciate their heritage, advocate for sustainable tourism, and are equipped to contribute meaningfully to the future of tourism in Africa. We will invite them to our events, conferences, workshops and other engagements. To allow them to network and see that tourism is a whole career outside the walls of school. One to look out for!
GITA-Africa will be the channel through which they will penetrate the tourism industry. Knowing well that we are waiting to receive them on the other side. Creating a shortcut to career development as they will have where to go for any advice or connections related to tourism.
Primary Schools: Instilling Values and Patriotism
At the primary level, our focus is on instilling values, patriotism, and appreciation for our natural and cultural heritage. Through storytelling, educational talks, interactive activities, and age-appropriate experiences, we aim to introduce learners to the beauty of their country and the importance of protecting and celebrating it.
By nurturing curiosity and pride in their identity from an early age, we hope to raise a generation that values conservation, appreciates diversity, and understands tourism as a force for national development.
Secondary Schools: Reviving Tourism Clubs and Building Interest
At the secondary level, our focus shifts towards exposure, engagement, and active participation.
GITA-Africa seeks to work with schools to strengthen existing Wildlife, Conservation, and Tourism Clubs, while supporting the establishment and operationalization of such clubs in schools where they do not yet exist.
Through these clubs, students will have opportunities to;
- Learn about careers within tourism and conservation
- Participate in webinars, workshops, and mentorship sessions
- Interact with industry professionals and role models
- Meet and network with fellow students who share similar interests
- Participate in educational quizzes and competitions
- Engage in conservation and tourism-related activities.
The objective is to show young people that tourism is a vibrant and dynamic sector filled with opportunities for learning, leadership, service, and employment.
To further strengthen these networks, GITA-Africa envisions creating platforms where students from different institutions can interact through joint activities, knowledge-sharing sessions, and end-of-year engagements such as educational trips, camps, and exchange programmes.
Tertiary Institutions and Universities: Preparing Future Professionals
At tertiary institutions and universities, our emphasis is on professional development and industry readiness.
Through masterclasses, mentorship programmes, networking events, familiarization trips, internships, and interactions with experienced professionals, we aim to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.
Participants are exposed to emerging trends, practical experiences, and opportunities that strengthen both their technical and soft skills while helping them transition confidently into the workforce.
